The purpose of Starkville Academy's elementary counseling program is to help each student be successful both academically and personally. The elementary counselor's goal is to support and equip our students to thrive in school and in life. She strives to meet the needs of all PreK-4th grade students through:
Classroom Guidance:
Monthly lessons highlight a character trait or life skill.
Topics include:
Growth mindset
Good citizenship
Sportsmanship
Listening skills
Study skills
Responsibility
Individual Counseling:
Counseling students on a short-term basis in areas such as:
Academic concerns
Emotional concerns
Peer relationships
Problem solving
Collaboration and Consultation:
The elementary counselor is available for collaboration and consultation with teachers, parents, students, administrators, and the community to address the academic, social and emotional concerns of our students.
Small Group Guidance:
Small groups or lunch bunches are run in the following areas:

Study Skills
Behavior Management

Records for a new student in grades PreK-4th will be requested from their previous school by the elementary counselor once the admissions process is complete.
Records for a student transferring schools will be mailed by the elementary counselor once a request has been received from the student’s new school and the withdrawal process is complete.
