SA Recognizes 2018 Distinguished Alumni

October 03, 2018
By Jeremy Nicholas

Dear SA Family,

Starkville Academy has a rich tradition of producing outstanding student leaders, and it gives me great pleasure to announce today our second-ever class of distinguished alumni award winners.  The 2018 Class of Distinguished Alumni include Johnny Buckner (Class of ’75), Kevin Rogers (’94), Neely Tucker (’82), and Andrew Weaver (’85).  These four individuals will take part in various activities at school on Friday, culminating in a recognition ceremony before the football game Friday night.  Be on the lookout for more information celebrating the accomplishments of these former Volunteers, and make plans to arrive early at the game to help welcome them back to SA.

News, Notes, and Highlights

The 2018-2019 Yearbook "Year in a Flash" is about to go on sale!  From now until December 19th, yearbooks cost $65.  After Christmas until April 5th, yearbooks will cost $75.  Order forms will be posted online next week under "School Forms" and placed in both school offices.  Please turn in checks or cash with order forms (one order form per child) to your child's office.

Our high school football team hosts Heritage Academy in a key district matchup this Friday night at J. E. Logan Field.  Kickoff is set for 7:00 PM.  Senior night recognition (for football, cheer, band, girls’ soccer, and cross country) and the 2018 Distinguished Alumni awards presentation will begin at 6:30 PM.

Bryan Mattison has organized a workday at the home of Betty and Johnnie Brown, our long-time custodians at SA. The workday is this Saturday, October 13th.  Those interested in being a part of this effort will meet at SA at 7:00 AM to leave for the Browns’ house. If you can’t make the early departure, please be at the Browns by 9:00 AM.  Their address is 1272 Ridge Rd. Crawford, MS 39743.  Lunch will be provided on Saturday, so please contact either Bryan (bryan.mattison@mitigate.pro) or myself to let us know if you’re planning to participate.

Our Fall Break Holiday is this Monday-Tuesday, Oct. 15th-16th.
