About Starkville

STARKVILLE was voted BEST PLACE TO LIVE by Mississippi Magazine for 2018!

Starkville, a small town in Northeast Mississsippi, is home to over 23,000 permanent residents and more than 21,000 students attending Mississippi State University during the school year. A vibrant college town, Starkville enjoys year-round events stemming from the university community, including SEC sporting events, arts festivals, music festivals, cultural events, community and university theater, and concerts, among many other fun family events. Starkville is well known as a family-friendly community where many settle to raise families. On the flip side, Starkville is a certified retirement city and is home to many retirees who enjoy the never-ending opportunities for events in town.

An interesting fact about Starkville is that it is also home to the Sam D. Hamilton Noxubee Wildlife Refuge, a refuge for various wildlife.  Students and families alike enjoy visiting The Refuge to hike, explore, bird watch, and simply enjoy the outdoors.

A small regional airport, Golden Triangle Regional Airport, services Starkville and its surrounding areas via Delta Airlines with multiple flights to Atlanta each day. Starkville offers a free transit system connecting the Starkville community with the university, and the system even offers transportation to and from the regional airport.
