Philosophy
Philosophy
The Philosophy for technology classes in grades K-6 is three-fold.
First, to partner with classroom teachers, integrating technology
(as per national technology standards) with their classroom
curriculum. Second, to give the students a well rounded introduction
to as many different application programs as possible (multimedia,
programming, spreadsheet, word-processing). Third, to train and
prepare students for high school research papers in the areas of
keyboarding skills, internet research skills, and word processing
skills. With only 40 minutes per week with each class, computer
class time will be a “hands on” learning experience.
Keyboarding instruction is begun in grade three and continues
throughout grade six. Typing Time (by South-Western) is a
keyboarding program that consists of a tutorial, reinforcement
activities, educational games, and a word processor. All these
components are combined in one comprehensive package that will help
students master the basic keyboarding skills. One-half of the class
period is dedicated to keyboarding.
Blocks of time are available for all elementary teachers to bring
their classes into the computer lab for additional research or
enrichment activities. All third through sixth graders are taught
safe internet searching skills.
