Jeremy Nicholas
Head of School

Welcome

Thank you for your interest in Starkville Academy! From kindergarten through the twelfth grade, our children will spend more time in school than just about any other activity. The amount of time spent in school, the influence of teachers and peers, and the need to prepare for the opportunities and challenges of the 21st century make the selection of the school that your children attend one of the most important decisions and investments you will ever make.

At Starkville Academy, we seek to provide a quality education for our students that will not only prepare them for college, but also for life in the “real world.” Since its inception in 1969, SA has sought to provide a Christ-centered environment in which our students could learn. Today, our goal is still the same, to equip students with a firm foundation that is built upon Biblical principles. To emphasize that another way, consider Romans 11:33, which states “Oh, the depth of the riches and the wisdom and the knowledge of God!”

In addition to the curriculum that reflects academic excellence, we offer numerous opportunities for extracurricular experiences for students of varying ages. Most important, we desire to instill within our young people a heart to know the hope and specific purpose God has for their lives. All of this would not be possible without a committed faculty and staff that view their roles not as a “job,” but as a “calling.” In addition to an inspiring faculty and staff, SA is blessed to have administrators, board members, and countless parents who give so much of themselves for the simple and single-minded purpose of making Starkville Academy the best that we can be!

We also seek to cultivate the character of our students. “Blessed is the man,” writes the psalmist, “who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on His law he meditates day and night.  He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers.”

Raising children in today’s culture is difficult. Mass media and the Internet constantly assault the hearts and minds of our children with rampant sensuality, immodesty, crudeness in speech and conduct, and self-centeredness. To counter these negative influences, our teachers work with students to develop Godly character, discerning minds, and sensitive hearts. It is our goal to see our students heed Peter’s instruction to “…make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness, and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love.”

Consequently, our prayer and our goal are for every member of the school community to strive to model Christian character and Christian scholarship. In so doing, we seek to develop young men and women with deep faith, keen intellects, and compassionate hearts. Great education nurtures the character as well as the mind of students. Commitment to these basic principles helps ensure that we provide your children with a rigorous academic education of distinction within a challenging and loving Christian environment.
